phenom2389 writes "I'm sure most of you, if not all of you, have already heard about this so forgive me if I'm being a little redundant. Rick is leaving for Florida in a couple of weeks. As happy as I am for him I am also greatly distressed that he is leaving. He has done so much for the St. Francis de Sales parish here in Mukegon. He will be sorely missed. I know I'll miss him. "

The New Catholic Manliness
|
|
By Todd M. Aglialoro
“The Catholic Church makes men. . . . Of such she may also someday make soldiers.”
—Hilaire Belloc
It
is a source of no small irony that, even as radical feminists within
and without the Church have railed for two generations against
patriarchy and phallocentrism, it can be quite plausibly said that the
post-conciliar Church in this country has, for all intents and
purposes, been run by women.
Consider a Sunday in the
life of a typical American parish. Father Reilly, once his mother’s
darling, says Mass before a congregation disproportionately
representative of widows (both the traditional and the football kind),
soccer moms flying solo, and budding young liturgistas.
At the elevation of the Host, extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist
(80-20 female) and altar servettes gather around the sanctuary to lend
him moral support.

Social Injustice: Mexican Wal-Mart baggers work for free
|
|
Although Wal-Mart’s worldwide code of ethics expressly forbids any
“associate” from working without compensation, the company’s Mexican
subsidiary asserts that the grocery baggers “cannot be considered
workers.”
“To my mind, that is not an
accurate description because the bagger is providing a service on the
store’s premises that benefits the company by serving the customer
better,” argues Federal District Labor Secretary Benito Mirón Lince.
“In economic terms, Wal-Mart does have the capability to pay the
minimum wage [of less than $5 a day], and this represents an injustice.”

The LifeStraw makes dirty water clean
|
|
Millions of people perish every year because
they simply don’t have clean water to drink. Until now, there was not
much we could do about this because systems to clean water were costly
and required electricity and spare parts and and and … but the
LifeStraw now offers a viable means of saving tens of millions of lives
every year.
LifeStraw is a personal, low-cost water
purification tool with a life time of 700 litres – approximately one
year of water consumption for one person. Positive test results have
been achieved on tap, turbid and saline water against common waterborne
bacteria such as Salmonella, Shigella, Enterococcus and Staphylococcu.
